John McGill

John has 20 years of experience over a wide range of Information Technology, as a software developer, software test engineer, helpdesk supervisor, Navy information system technician, and his current role as a Cybersecurity Engineer. He has an A.S. in Information Systems Programming, a B.S. in Information Technology, and will graduate with a M.S. in Information Technology Management (Cybersecurity) in June 2020. He is a Fellow for the Cybersecurity Skills Journal at the National CyberWatch Center, a member of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), and an Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) chapter board member. He holds several industry certifications, including the CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+). He is currently preparing to take the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification to further his goal of becoming a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
John has been involved with the NCL for five seasons, consistently ranking individually in the top 50, and leading his team to a top 10 spot. He has participated in over 20 competitions as a coach, team captain, and player. He has presented at national conferences and was the founder of the Tidewater Community College Cybersecurity Club (TC4), where he lead his team to a 4th place victory at the Virginia CyberCup competition.
